At Floor CoWorthington Court1verings International in Western NC, we love bringing you creative insight and perspectives from bloggers who are kind enough to share their wisdom, stories, and designs. This month, we’re particularly excited to feature Suzy, a DIY designer and longtime blogger at Worthing Court.  Her Southern Farmhouse style is a perfect fit for Western NC!

1. Please tell us a little about yourself.
Hello everyone! My name is Suzy and I blog at Worthing Court. I’m a wife, mom and grandmother who is an interior design school dropout – life happened and I needed to go to work fulltime. After spending too many years in the corporate jungle, I’m ecstatic to have returned to my first love – home decor.

I’m a southern girl, born and bred, so my design aesthetic naturally leans that way. The Worthing Court blog tagline pretty much says it all – DIY Southern Farmhouse Style. On the Worthing Court blog, I share decorating and diy projects and inspiration and recipes with a little fashion thrown in for good measure.

2. Why did you decide to start a blog? What do you enjoy about blogging?
I started my blog in 2011 to serve as a creative outlet for me and to share my love of interior design. I’m a big believer in “paying it forward” and have always had a strong desire to help and inspire others by demonstrating that creating a home you love doesn’t have to be expensive.

What do I enjoy about blogging? Why, it has to be the many wonderful people that I’ve met from all over the world, both in person and virtually! The home decor community, both bloggers and non-bloggers, is filled with wonderful and generous people. I often tell my husband, that because of the blog, I could go anywhere and have someone to call on if I ever found myself in need.

3. How would you describe your design style?
I would describe my style as southern inspired farmhouse with a little rustic thrown in. For far too many years, I thought that I had to decorate to please everyone else and wound up always feeling out of place and restless in my own home. It has taken me a quite while to get comfortable in my own design skin and to not get so caught up in the latest and greatest. If I could only give one piece of decorating advice to anyone, it would be to stay true to yourself and your family and you’ll likely always feel real contentment in your home.

4. Where do you find most of your inspiration?
I can’t deny the influence that Pinterest and other blogs has on me, but I find inspiration everywhere! I can decorate a whole room in my head just by walking around a fabric store. I can take a walk outside and dream of decorating a space using the myriad of colors found in nature. A visit to a home accessories store will have my brain swimming with ideas. I can even walk into my “stash closet” and dream up new ways to use what I already have.

5. Tell us about a recent project that you’re proud of.
That’s an easy one for me. Right now I’m living my dream of remodeling an older home from top to bottom and sharing it all on the blog. We purchased a mid-90’s brick home, that I call a two story ranch style, and have been having a blast updating it and making it our own. One of the largest projects was giving our kitchen a total gut job.

Our dated red brick and oak trim fireplace was given a complete new look using only paint.
We do a lot of outdoor living here in the south, so a porch is a must. The bones of our porch were good – all it needed was a beauty makeover.
And our laundry room went from being an unbelievably cluttered and ugly mess to one of my favorite spaces.

If you’ve fallen in love with Suzy’s designs like we have, be sure to keep up with all of her latest at Worthing Court!
