New carpet is a wonderful thing. It’s soft, clean and looks beautiful. When it’s first installed, it can be easy to assume it will look that wonderful forever. Of course, overtime things can happen. It’s important to take the necessary steps to keep your carpet clean so that the beautiful new look can last as long as possible. The experts at Floor Coverings International of Western North Carolina have put together a guide to help you know which types of cleaning to do when.

Vacuum

You should be vacuuming your carpet regularly. This is especially true if you have pets, kids, or if the carpet is in a high-traffic area. Even if your carpet doesn’t look dirty, the fibers pick up dirt and dust from the air around them, and these can slowly discolor your carpet. That dirt and dust can also be a nuisance for people who tend to get allergies.

Spot Clean

If an accident happens, be sure to take care of it immediately. Most of the carpet we carry at Floor Coverings International is stain-resistant, but this doesn’t mean that a spill left on your carpet for a long period of time won’t cause damage. Use a spot cleaner, and be sure to blot at the stain. Scrubbing can cause the stain to get larger or go deeper into the carpet’s fibers.

Professional Clean

A good rule of thumb is that you should have your carpet professionally cleaned at least once a year. Like with vacuuming, this is especially important if you have pets or children. If you keep up with this regimen, it should be more than worth the money and time. It will keep your carpet looking new for a much longer period of time, increasing your investment and ensuring your home looks beautiful!
